ITV soap Coronation Street is going to be welcoming back Norris Cole (played by Malcolm Hebden) soon. The character took a break from the soap after actor Hebden suffered from a heart attack in real life. However, the character is going to be back in Weatherfield very soon, much to the relief of fans.
When will Norris Cole return to Coronation Street?
Norris Cole is going to be back on Coronation Street next week in a story involving a death mix-up.
The character has been off screens since December 2017 when Hebden had poor health.
In Coronation Street, Norris has been spending time in Peru with Emily Bishop (Eileen Derbyshire).
But when he comes back to Manchester, he could be engaged to Freda Burgess (Ali Briggs), if recent reports are to be believed, but we’ll have to wait and see how the story pans out when he’s back.
As part of his storyline, Norris and Freda are expected to announce their engagement before planning to buy a house together.
The plot line could leave Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) heartbroken given her love for Norris despite their tumultuous relationship.
The storyline is expected to be a short one and is not know about the future of the character.
However, Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod recently address Norris’ absence, telling Digital Spy: “One hundred percent Norris is not leaving the show.
“We just thought that given the circumstances we find ourselves in, it made sense to put a family in Number 3 but it’s certainly not the end of Norris.
“As for Emily, we’re in talks fairly regularly with Eileen but at the moment there’s no plans for her to return but again the door’s certainly not closed there.
“But definitely in Norris’s case, the hope on my part and, I think on his, is that we can bring him back in for good.”
He went on to say that Norris’ return was more of a “cameo” than a fully-fledged comeback.
But it very much looks like the door has been left open for the star should he wish to go back to Coronation Street.
MacLeod previously said of the story with Norris: “He’s on that list of Emily Bishop’s of characters who are so Corrie that the show doesn’t feel correct without them in there.
“Soap characters come and go – but I am reading bits in the scripts where I know Norris would have something to say.
“His return story is pleasantly silly and revisits his relationship with Mary in a meaningful way.”
Norris has been part of Coronation Street since 1994 and became a mainstay on the show 1999.
Coronation Street continues on ITV tonight at 7.30pm & 8.30pm
