Didi Conn has joined the Dancing on Ice cast this year, alongside a number of professional dancers and other celebrities. The Dancing on Ice lineup has included a unique lineup, with actors, pop stars and reality stars all competing for the grand prize. Didi Conn stands out among the group, as a former actress on cult hit film Grease.
How old is Didi Conn?
Didi Conn is best known for her portrayal of Frenchy in Grease, core member of the Pink Ladies gang.
One of the most memorable songs in the film, ‘Beauty School dropout’, focusses on Conn’s character as she sings with an imagined Frankie Avalon.
Didi Conn is one of the oldest competitors on the ice this year, aged 67.
The actress was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1951 and debuted as an actress in the 1960’s.
Grease was released 40 years ago in 1978, when Didi Conn was 27-years-old.
Didi’s success has mostly come from her time in Grease and Grease 2, as well as a selection of on-stage appearances later in life.
She has been married to songwriter an composer David Shire since 1982, and the couple have one son together.
The actress has taken to Dancing on ice to some heavy judge criticism, however she remains excited about participating in the show.
When asked why she took up the competition, Didi revealed she likes a challenge.
Talking too Heart Radio, She said: “It was a challenge! Something that i thought ‘Gee I really would like to try!’ but I was a little bit frightened.
“I’ve never ice skated, my early memories were of being little with my dad but back then I was very small and close to the ice!
“It just seemed like a challenge and I thought ‘I love England, I love London – why not.'”
Dancing on Ice also strikes closer to home for Didi, who is looking to discover herself apart from her family duties.
Didi sees the competition as a chance to explore an entirely new part of her life, having been devoted to her family since her son’s autism diagnosis in 2008.
She said: “I have a son who has special needs and he is now living on a farm and working there, and this has given me a time in my life to find out who is ‘Didi Didi’ not ‘Didi Mommy!'”
“So this a great way to start diving into this new part of my life.”
