Kym Marsh is set to be a grandmother for the very first time, as her 21-year-old daughter, Emillie, is pregnant.
The Coronation Street star hosted a gender reveal party for Emillie and her boyfriend of six months on December 9.
On the day, Emillie and her partner let off a cannon filled with blue confetti to reveal the baby’s gender to family and friends.
Kym, 42, uploaded a picture of the happy couple hugging on Twitter and captioned the sweet image: “IT’S A BOY!!!”
The actress previously said she was excited to become a grandmother, but admitted she was unsure about being called a “grandma”.
“I’ve always looked forward to having grandchildren. I’m not sure about being called grandma,” the TV star told OK! Magazine.
“I’ve been researching alternative names. I like “Lolli’, then Emilie’s dad could be ‘Pop’ and we’d be ‘Lollipop’, which I think is sweet. I like ‘GG’ too.”
Kym, who fell pregnant with her first child at the age of 18, said her daughter would make a fantastic mother, although she admitted it can be “scary” being a young mum.
She said: “I know what it’s like to be young and pregnant, it’s scary but I also know Emillie is going to be a great mum.
“Being a young mum seems to be a pattern in my family, my mum was 18 when she had my brother, my sister was 18 when she fell pregnant and so was I.”
The soap star said she told Emillie it is going to be “hard work” being a mother, however she has offered to help out.
She said: “I’m going to be as hands-on as I can possibly be, but I have said to Emillie that this is her baby so it’s her responsibility.
“I’ll help out but at the end of the day, I’ll be passing the baby back to her. Emillie isn’t silly, she know there will be tough moments.”
She continued: “But I’ve told her that the moment your child says: ‘I love mummy’, it’ll all be worth it.
“I’m looking forward to being a young grandmother as it means I’ll have lots of energy to play with my grandchild.”
Outside of her personal life, Kym is gearing up for a shocking storyline on ITV’s Coronation Street as her character Michelle Connor.
In an upcoming episode, Michelle’s partner Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) will raise the issue of having a baby.
Initially she is hesitant about having another child after losing her baby with Steve McDonald last year (Simon Gregson).
But after a conversation with Toyah Battersby, (Georgia Taylor) the mother-of-two has a change of heart and tells Robert she wants to start a family with him.
Speaking about the storyline, actress Kym said: “She has started to think about it, promoted by Robert bringing up the subject and she realises she has never really gone there in her own head and considered whether or not she could face getting pregnant again.”
