The second season of Mirzapur was confirmed by Amazon back in February when a minute-long announcement video dropped online. While a release date wasn’t announced by the streaming service, fans were still keen for new episodes to be released as soon as possible. Now, approaching a year on from the first series premiere, could the second season have been delayed?
Has Mirzapur season 2 release been delayed?
Amazon and Mirzapur bosses have not announced officially that season two has fallen victim to a delay.
However, several outlets suggest fans will be waiting until 2020 for the new series.
With the first season being released in November 2018, a 2020 release would make Mirzapur an exception.
Express.co.uk has contacted Amazon Prime for comment regarding season two’s release.
One thing that is for sure for the next season of Mirzapur is which stars will be back.
Filming has been ongoing this summer and actress Harshita Gaur, who plays Dimpy, has spoken publicly about the “crazy level” at which the series is being shot.
The actress, who also starred in Sacred Games season two, told IANS: “Shooting of Mirzapur two is going on at a crazy level, at least for me.
“I had a knee injury on sets, I have been travelling for (other) work and then directly reaching sets of Mirzapur two (in Mumbai) to shoot.”
Munna (played by Divyendu Sharma) will join Dimpy on screens once again in season two.
Actor Sharma opened up to India Today about what life’s been like since debuting as Munna.
Speaking about Munna, he said: “I think Munna is the most author-backed character of that show. No matter how evil he is, he is also very human. He wants validation from his father, but you have these two boys who are ready to take over the business.
“I often say that Munna never tried to harm his father but it was always to get attention from him. He is a troubled soul. He’s not a Ranjit who gets up one morning and goes like ‘I will go and hit some people.’
“He’s someone who says if you hurt me, I will hurt you double. Just don’t mess with me.”
The Mirzapur star also confirmed he was back filming season two of the Prime Video series.
However, he also mentioned he had no idea how popular it would be, telling the publication: “I know the show was good but didn’t anticipate it’d be that popular.
“I was shooting in Kanpur, India recently and I needed three to four bodyguards to keep the boys in control. They were like Munna Bhaiyya is here. They wanted to believe I was shooting for Mirzapur two even when we told them it wasn’t!”
Mirzapur season 2 will be released on Amazon Prime soon.
