Watchdog presenter Matt Allwright, TV personality Stacey Solomon, BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin and actor Keith Alan took on today’s Chaser, Anne Hegerty.
Louise was the third celebrity to take on the Chaser, but her decision to take the low offer outraged viewers who couldn’t understand the reasoning behind her choice.
During her cash builder round, Louise earned an impressive £8,000 and was given the option of moving her position on the board by swapping the money she earned for either £346 or £70,000.
Despite her performance, all three celebrities urged Louise to take the lower offer of £346 as they explained how much they wanted her to make it through to the final chase.
Offering his opinion on her decision, Keith said: “I would just go low,” to which Louise hit back: “Really? Only 346?”
“I think you are very intelligent and you can get back on any of those numbers so whatever you feel like doing,” added Stacey.
Following on from Stacey adding £60,000 to the prize fund, Matt advised: “Stacey did such an amazing job, we’ve got a big sum of money but I think we’re going to need all four people to make sure we can bring it home.”
Louise took her teammates advice and took the lower offer before comfortably beating the Chaser to secure her spot in the final.
However, viewers watching were puzzled at the BBC Breakfast presenter’s decision and took to Twitter to comment.
“Man…. Louise Minchin really wimped out on celebrity #TheChase £346 is so little money… Could have easily got though on more money, especially as she is on morning TV that has a lot of current affairs,” one wrote.
“Why on earth did she take that low offer #TheChase,” questioned a second.
One confused viewer tweeted: “£346 ????? #TheChase,” and a fourth remarked: “#TheChase £346?! Behave!!”
Alongside a shocked emoji, another commented: “@louiseminchin 346?”
Earlier in the show, Matt added £10,000 to the jackpot prize before Stacey surprised her teammates by choosing the higher offer of £60,000.
The Loose Women presenter had confessed her general knowledge was “terrible” and expressed how nervous she was before answering six questions correctly in the cash builder round.
Introducing Stacey, Bradley asked: “What’s your general knowledge like?” to which she replied: “Terrible, I literally know nothing about nothing.”
“It’s scary Bradley!” she added before going on to beat Anne and adding the huge sum to the jackpot prize fund.
Keith was the final celebrity to earn his spot in the final and followed Louise by opting for the lower offer of £1,000.
With all four celebrities in the final, Anne failed to beat them and the team won £71,346 for their respective charities.
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV
