The Voice UK 2019: Sir Tom Jones hits back at ‘fix’ claims | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

The Voice UK has returned, and the show’s coaches are desperately looking for the next big thing.

Will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and Olly Murs are all back in those iconic red chairs.

Last weekend’s episode opened the series with a big bang, and there were some rather spectacular moments in the show.

However, the standout moment came when one contestant came on, and it was revealed he had an unbelievable link to Sir Tom.

Peter Donegan came of the show to try and make a name for himself, yet it was later revealed that he has rock and roll in his blood.

The only coach to turn for the singer was Sir Tom, and the Welsh superstar asked the contestant what his name was.

“Peter Donegan,” he answered, to which Sir Tom joked, “No relation to Lonnie Donegan?”

“Yeah. He was my dad,” Peter replied, much to Sir Tom and the audience’s surprise.

However, there have been claims that the moment was a setup, yet Sir Tom insisted it wasn’t.

“That was real,” Sir Tom told the press, including Express.co.uk.

“I hope people at home don’t think it was a setup or anything.

“I had no idea. When he said Peter Donegan, because Donegan is not a common name, so I said, ‘Any relation to Lonny Donegan?’

“And he said ‘Yeah. He was my father.’”

Peter and Tom ended up singing a song together on the show which his father had written for the Welsh singer, and it was a truly special moment.

Will.i.am also spoke about how magical that moment was and likened it to the plot of a Hollywood movie.

“That was magical,” the musician and music producer said.

“Just of all the things that might have happened in the world for that to happen.

“He had to get home and go, ‘You know, I’m going to do the show.’

“But even if you go back to the sixties his dad, and rock n roll was taking off, and he wrote that song for Tom Jones.

“And then he had a baby, and then all the things that just came together to make that magical moment were like, ‘What!’

“That’s like if there was a movie, it would be like, ‘There’s no way stuff like that happens in real life!’ Like that was real life.”

The Voice UK 2019 continues Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
